Right now, there’s a casting call for an HBO show called The Righteous Gemstones, a hit comedy series that’s in production for its second season. What Is The Righteous Gemstones?
Reveling in sacrilegious humor and sharp satire, The Righteous Gemstones follows the Gemstones, a wealthy family of pastors and televangelists who use their ministry to fund their extravagant lifestyle. The head of the Gemstone empire is the widowed Eli Gemstone (John Goodman). He and his children, Jesse (Danny McBride), Judy (Edi Patterson), and Kelvin (Adam DeVine), all participate in the family ministry and benefit from the substantial income their church generates.
As the series progresses, we discover that the Gemstone family has made plenty of enemies while expanding their ministry and network of megachurches.
The first season revolves around a blackmail scheme aimed at Jesse, who has been caught on camera in a compromising position. The storyline also explores strained relationships between members of the Gemstone ministry and “competing” pastors with familial ties to the Gemstone empire.
Season One Success
The series poignantly explores themes of zeal, greed, hypocrisy, and the dynamics of growing up in a family so entrenched in religion as a business – all while managing to earn plenty of laughs. Audiences were quite taken to The Righteous Gemstones right away and the se was renewed for a second season after episode three of the first season.
Currently, the series holds an 8.0 rating on the review site IMDB along with a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating generally positive ratings among both audiences and critics. The series was also nominated for two IGN Awards, including Best Ensemble Cast and Best TV Comedy Series.
Season Two Production
While the world has had to wait for quite a few productions to resume in the wake of the pandemic, production of season two of The Righteous Gemstones is now underway. Right now, the HBO comedy series is casting for background roles for a week of filming in Beaufort, South Carolina. Lots of extras are needed to fill a wide variety of roles, including rather specific individuals like firebreathers and identical newborn twins. And who wouldn’t be curious about the crazy shenanigans the writers of the show are creating around this scene?
There is also a need for background actors to fill other roles that aren’t quite so niche, such as security officers, construction workers, and more. This particular shoot is taking place from August 9th through the 13th. Be sure to keep an eye out for more casting calls as the show continues filming in and around Charleston, South Carolina.
