Things we're frequently asked
No. Discovery Spotlight is not an agency. We are a model and talent showcase that offers you the opportunity to be seen by agencies and scouts in the entertainment industry. Should a scout be interested in working with you after the event, you will not be "represented" by Discovery Spotlight. You should continue to work directly with the partnering agency that referred you to our showcase. If you are not represented, our directors can provide you with management assistance.
While not every participant is offered a contract at the conclusion of the weekend, those who come prepared have the best chance for success. What we do guarantee is that you will be provided with valuable tools and the opportunity to be seen by top agents and scouts. We provide the opportunity for you to shine...how brightly is up to you.
Absolutely! Sponsors are allowed and encouraged. It is not required that you obtain sponsorship, but it can help defray costs for your participation. Sponsors can include family and friends, local businesses, clubs, schools, etc. You will receive information in your welcome packet that should help you obtain sponsorships.
Unfortunately, not everyone who participates in Discovery Spotlight finds success. That is the nature of the business. There are many myths about getting started in the modeling and talent industry. The entertainment business is a very unique and competitive one that does require education, training and exposure. These are always the responsibilities of the talent. In order to secure representation or jobs, you have to be seen. Discovery Spotlight provides the most effective way for models and talent to be seen and marketed on a national level.
There is a vast difference between an audition and a showcase. An audition is a demonstration for the purpose of interviewing for a specific role or job. An audition is free to attend. A showcase requires trainers, directors, marketers, designers, lighting and sound engineers, and a large number of scouts in attendance from multiple agencies and castings nationwide. A showcase requires an attendance fee because of the expenses needed to produce it.
If you or your children are passionate about performing and want to build self-confidence and gain national exposure, this event is for you.
The entertainment world is comprised of people from all walks of life. We interview potential contestants of all ages, races, genders, religions, shapes and sizes. We don’t put our talent in a box.
While photography and/or pre-expo training packages are not available through Discovery Spotlight. All referring affiliate directors should be able to offer suggestions or options for these services. Please contact your referring director for further information in these areas.
Both. The main purpose of our event is to showcase talent to agents and scouts nationwide. However, the top contestants in each category will be awarded win trophies, medals, and other prizes including cash awards, gift certificates, prizes, and industry related awards Over $50,000 in scholarships to future events is presented at the awards ceremony.
The entry fees help offset operating costs, including the staffing of a year-round team of organizers, trainers, managers, recruiters and marketers; covers the costs for the venue, technical and security staff, workshop stipends, transportation and accommodations for the scouts selected to offer contestants the highest level of exposure possible. This event saves time and expenses required to travel across the country in hopes of meeting legitimate agents and scouts. The industry workshops add clout to your talent resume. It also guarantees face time with top VIP’s in a professional, family friendly atmosphere.
